Which nicotine strength should you choose?

Knowing which nicotine strength to choose can also be tricky. Once you have chosen which electronic cigarette you want, you still need to choose the e-liquid, and then you have everything you need to start vaping. However, when it comes to e-liquid, there are different nicotine strengths. Here you will find information about our recommendation for those who are new to electronic cigarettes and which nicotine strength you should choose to get the best experience.

Is your goal to become nicotine-free?

There are different approaches you can take if you have bought an e-cigarette to quit smoking and become nicotine-free. We usually recommend that customers who want to be free from nicotine gradually reduce the nicotine strength and then become nicotine-free. Quitting smoking abruptly is quite difficult, but not entirely impossible. However, to prevent you from relapsing into tobacco cigarettes, our recommendation is instead to gradually reduce the nicotine strength. This has proven to be a good strategy for becoming free from nicotine.

If we consider the scenario where you smoke a pack of cigarettes a day and decide to switch to an electronic cigarette, but are completely unsure about which nicotine strength to choose, we recommend that you start with a nicotine strength of 12mg and then reduce it to 6mg when you feel ready. When the time comes, reduce it one more step to 3mg, and when you feel ready, switch to a completely nicotine-free e-liquid.

For this strategy, we recommend our 10ml E-juice range and an MTL (mouth-to-lung) e-cigarette.

Note, however, that this may vary from person to person!

We recommend one of these MTL e-cigarettes for anyone who wants to try an e-cigarette.

These electronic cigarettes are so-called "MTL" e-cigarettes that replicate the sensation of smoking tobacco cigarettes, and are highly recommended for people who want to quit smoking or for new vapers.

Shortfill E-liquid

Another strategy is suitable for vapers who have a more advanced electronic cigarette that can vaporise slightly "thicker" e-liquid. A shortfill e-liquid is a liquid that is not filled all the way to the top so that there is room for the user to mix in so-called nic shots. There is a simple method called Shake N Vape, which is very easy and involves simply adding the amount of nicotine you want. We have created a table that tells you how many nic shots you need to mix in, calculated for a 60ml bottle (filled with 50ml of e-liquid). If you would like to read more about shortfill e-liquid, you can read our previous post.

For this type of e-liquid, we recommend a DTL (direct-to-lung) e-cigarette. You can find our shortfill e-liquid range here

* 50 ml without nicotine + 10 ml containing 18 mg nicotine = 60 ml containing 3 mg nicotine

* 40 ml without nicotine + 2x 10 ml containing 18 mg nicotine = 60 ml containing 6 mg nicotine

* 30 ml without nicotine + 3x 10 ml containing 18 mg nicotine = 60 ml containing 12 mg nicotine

For this type of e-liquid, we recommend one of these DTL e-cigarettes

These e-cigarettes are somewhat more advanced than the previous recommendations. With these e-cigarettes, the user can adjust the wattage and other settings themselves. These types of e-cigarettes are capable of vaporising shortfill e-liquid that is "thicker" than the 10ml variety.

For those who have not previously smoked tobacco cigarettes

If you have not previously smoked tobacco cigarettes but want to start vaping, we recommend that you do not start vaping e-liquid with nicotine. Instead, choose our completely nicotine-free liquids. Nicotine is an addictive substance and should be avoided.

You can find our nicotine-free e-liquid marked with "0mg", indicating that the e-liquid is completely nicotine-free.
