What does steeping your e-liquid mean? Here’s some information!
Steeping your e-liquid is not well known among new vapers; many beginners using e-cigarettes have no idea what it means to steep their e-liquid. In this post, we will explain what steeping is and what you should consider when you steep your e-liquid.
Steeping your e-juice is actually not a difficult process, but rather a time-consuming one, so you need to be patient. You can think of it as essentially "aging" your e-liquid so that the flavorings, vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol and, in some cases, the nicotine blend together and make the flavors richer and more distinct.
Above, you can see how the color of your e-liquid changes as it steeps.
Steeping your e-liquid is most relevant for vapers who mix their own e-liquid, since e-liquids purchased from various retailers are usually already steeped by the supplier. If you are unsure, you can check the date on the bottle and work out for yourself whether the e-liquid has been steeped or not.
There are different flavorings that require different lengths of steeping time; fruit e-liquids require on average only 1–2 days of steeping, whereas tobacco & dessert e-liquids require at least 2 weeks of steeping for maximum flavor.
Steeping your e-liquid is a personal matter, and you can choose for yourself how long you want to steep it. Some vapers like to steep for months, while others prefer to steep for a maximum of 1–3 weeks. You have to experiment and see what suits you best. Dare to experiment!
The point of steeping your e-liquid is to get the best flavor out of the e-juice, and it is worth mentioning that an old e-juice cannot be steeped, and that steeping is not a magic formula for making liquids that taste bad taste good.
If you have a favorite e-liquid that you buy from your favorite retailer and you notice that the e-liquid does not taste the way it usually does, it is most often because the e-liquid in question has not steeped sufficiently. You can experiment with your e-juice yourself by allowing it to steep for different periods and see whether you think it tastes better.
How do I steep my e-juice?
There are many ways to steep your e-liquid, but the most common routine is to let your e-liquid sit in a dark place, such as a wardrobe or pantry. However, there are a few ways you can speed up the process.
To "breathe", as it is so aptly called in English, means to let your e-liquid breathe. Combining letting your e-liquid "age" and "breathe" speeds up the steeping process. By letting the e-liquid stand in, for example, the pantry with the cap open for a few hours, (NOTE! no more than 12 hours), you speed up the process of steeping your e-liquid.
You can also shake the bottle from time to time while it is standing in the pantry to remix the flavorings and ingredients so that they blend together.
You can also use slightly more unorthodox techniques, such as exposing your e-liquid to heat. Placing the bottle on a lukewarm radiator or letting the bottle sit in lukewarm water causes the vegetable glycerin to thin out and makes the VG more similar to propylene glycol. When the e-liquid returns to room temperature, the VG returns to its natural form, but with more flavor.
