The Government Proposes a Total Ban on Flavors in E-Juice

On May 31, the Social Affairs Committee will decide its position on the Government’s proposal to ban flavors in e-liquid and e-cigarettes. The Government’s proposal means that all flavorings, except those that provide a clear “smell and taste of tobacco,” will be prohibited from being sold in Sweden.
The argument used by the Government is that it wants to protect our young people or prevent adults from being enticed to try e-cigarettes. In other words, the Government wants our flavors to be neutralized, banned, and to taste only of tobacco. 
What does this mean?
It means that, in principle, all flavors will disappear. Only the taste of tobacco will remain. 150,000 users risk being forced back to the harmful cigarettes. In addition, there is a risk that an illegal black market for e-liquids and e-cigarettes will emerge. More than 90 percent of all e-juices and e-cigarettes sold in Sweden taste of something other than “tobacco.” You will have trouble getting your e-juice or other flavored juices.
We ask ourselves how this ban is supposed to help our young people? Doesn’t this increase the risk that young people will end up in a lifelong, health-threatening cigarette addiction when there are no alternatives?
Part of the truth is that 87% of our customers today are 25 or older. Young adults are our smallest customer group. But all are adult, legally competent people who have the right to decide for themselves whether they want help quitting smoking with strawberries or tobacco.
Another part of the truth is that we have used nicotine for hundreds of years, and we will continue to use nicotine in one way or another. Why should we have to do so in a way that seriously jeopardizes our health? Many find enjoyment in using nicotine and will continue to use it, regardless of legislation. Nicotine will find its way.
We have many good examples among our customers—people who, with the help of e-cigarettes, have managed to quit smoking, gaining major health benefits. These people may now be forced back to cigarettes or flavors that noticeably resemble cigarettes. Exactly what they once wanted to quit! Crazy!

You need to make your voice heard. Politicians and those in power need to understand what flavors mean to you personally! No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.
